Newport volleyball wins one, loses one

NEWPORT — The Newport volleyball team got another win and another loss after two more games.

Thursday, Sept. 25 was Newport’s rematch against Reardan, who the Grizzlies hosted and won against by 25-12, 25-19 and 25-19.

“It was a fun game to watch, the team should be very proud of themselves,” Newport coach Kathy Eggleston says. “They came to win.”

The Grizzlies really came together, Eggleston says, showing amazing energy and momentum on the court.

Kaylia Earl made the Reardan Screaming Eagles work hard to read her, working their block well. She had an outstanding game, Eggleston says, with 19 kills, two blocks, five digs and four ace serves.

Lindsay Collison also did well, with no hitting errors and seven kills; she was a force for the Screaming Eagles to work around her blocks, three of which terminated the ball, Eggleston says. Besides those, Collision had five digs and two ace serves.

Abby Martin played well as libero with 12 digs.

Among the other Grizzlies, Kenna Arthur had 23 assists, nine digs and two ace serves. Grace Parry added three blocks, three kills and one ace serve. Sammi Tellessen had 10 assists, three kills, one block and one dig, Bella Boyd seven digs and two kills and Lilly Jenkins seven digs, two kills and two blocks.

“They supported each other and covered the court well,” Eggleston says.

Then was Newport’s rematch against the rival Priest River Spartans Monday, Sept. 29, when they lost 25-21, 25-21, 25-15, 25-22 and 15-10. (See separate story.)

The Grizzlies next visit Jenkins at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, after The Miner’s weekly deadline. Later in the week Newport visits Kettle Falls at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, before hosting St. George’s next week at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7.
