NEWPORT — The Washington State University Master Gardeners of Pend Oreille County are sponsoring a class on the region’s native plants.
Guest speaker Tom Pulford, Noxious Weed Board member, will provide an overview of the “unique and wonderful” plants of Pend Oreille County, according to a WSU Pend Oreille County Extension news release, and some of their ethnobotany uses within the Salish culture.
Pulford is also sharing his knowledge of county geology, soils, weather and expected climate changes to plant habitat and proper transplanting techniques for incorporating native plants in the garden.
The class is at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9 at the Create Arts Center, 900 4th St. in Newport. The fee to take the class is $5, or $3 for Master Gardeners, and can be paid with cash, check, money order or through PayPal.
