Create hosting more events this October

NEWPORT — Create Arts Center is hosting even more events this October.

Popeye Rose Social Club, alongside Carl Rey and Truck Mills, will present a benefit concert for Create from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4.

Carl Rey is on harmonica while Truck Mills plays a variety of strings. Popeye Rose Social Club brings years of experience with Steve Bennett on mandolin, Darlene Mossman on bass and Jim Pletsch on slide. Blues, jazz, Americana and original music will fill Create’s stage.

Tickets to the benefit concert are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, and students attend for free.

Nina Messner is presenting “Passionate about Garlic II” from 1 to 3 p.m. Oct. 9. She will explain the different varieties of garlic that grow well in the area. The free presentation is sponsored by Create, RG*NEW, the Kalispel Tribe and Selkirk Alliance for Science. Refreshments and door prizes will be offered.

Create also has new children’s writing workshops. Oct. 7 and 14 will feature “Creating a Character,” Nov. 4 and 11 “Where Stories Live.”

These classes are designed for ages 8 to 12 and are free, sponsored by the Kalispel Tribe. Pre-registration is required.
