Teen vandal pleads guilty

NEWPORT — Raeshawn Marques Chapman Maser, 15, pleaded guilty to first-degree malicious mischief in Pend Oreille County Superior Corut Friday, Sept. 26.

Chapman was one of three juveniles arrested in connection to a vandalism spree July 17. Cars and buildings were damaged in the vandalism and three were charged with the same felonies in the spree.

Prosecuting attorney Dolly Hunt said she would recommend credit for time served, 12 month’s probation and restitution to be paid to the victims. She said that she needed time to notify victims and asked that sentencing be later.

Friday Judge Robin McCroskey declined to accept the plea initially after Chapman pleaded not guilty, apparently not understanding what was happening. His attorney, Magen Cain, asked for time to speak with him. McCroskey agreed and they returned and McCroskey took the guilty plea. Sentencing is set for 3 p.m. Oct. 16.

Chapman is also facing charges in Idaho in which no bail, no bond are available. He will wrap up the Pend Oreille County case before being sent to Idaho.
