Lady Grizzlies split week in win, loss

SPANGLE — The visiting Grizzlies (4-4-2, 2-4) beat the Lions (3-5, 3-5) 4-1, in a league soccer game on Thursday, Oct. 9 at Upper Columbia Academy.

Newport scored in the fifth minute of the game, with Delaney Brandtner making the goal with an assist by Lily Verity. Brandtner did it again in the 12th minute, Paige Rivera scored a penalty kick at 45 minutes and Amy Ives cinched goal number four in the 75th minute with an assist by Gracie McNamee.

Earlier in the week Newport hosted Northwest Christian, where the Grizzlies lost 10-0 on Tuesday, Oct. 7. Newport had six shots on goal and Northwest Christian had 21. Newport had 12 saves and NWC had four.

Newport played at Freeman after deadline Tuesday, Oct. 14. Next up, the Grizzlies will host the Davenport Gorillas at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 at Ellersick Field.
