NEWPORT — The Newport High School volleyball team ended last week with a win after two losses.

Despite losing twice, Newport remains third in the Northeast 2B North league with seven wins and four losses.

Newport visited Northwest Christian Tuesday, Oct. 14, losing in three sets 25-18, 25-20 and 25-16.

Newport coach Kathy Eggleston says the Grizzlies put up strong blocking and serving games, keeping their energy up and making the Northwest Christian Crusaders work to get hits over the net.

“The team really brought it. They were playing well together, and their effort was amazing,” Eggleston says. “It was an exciting game to watch, and the team should be very proud of themselves.”

Lily Jenkins had a great game, Eggleston says, playing everywhere with three digs, three blocks and one kill. Lindsay-Rose Collison dominated the net with six blocks, five kills and four digs. Always-solid Kaylia Earl added seven digs, seven kills, one ace serve and five blocks, almost doubling her block stats in a single game.

Kenna Arthur had 12 assists, three digs, two kills and one block, Grace Parry five digs, four kills and three blocks and Sammi Tellessen seven assists, two digs and two kills. Grace Keck added eight digs, Genica Kreider six digs and one ace serve, Bella Boyd two digs and two kills and Abby Martin seven digs.

“Northwest Christian is a solid team, and I look forward to challenging them in districts,” Eggleston says.

The Grizzlies next hosted Davenport Thursday, Oct. 16, losing in another three sets. They ended their losing streak with a win against Kettle Falls Saturday, Oct. 18, when Newport won against the visiting Bulldogs in three sets 25-22, 25-16 and 25-9. Earl led Newport’s offense last weekend with five kills and four ace serves. Leading defense were Keck with seven digs and Collison with two blocks. Tellessen added seven assists.

Newport’s last game of the season is away against St. George’s at 6:30 p.m.
