A.C. Flanders is posed beside what may be the engine of a ship. He piloted the steamboat Metaline on the Pend Oreille River before the railroad made it to the northern part of Pend Oreille County in 1910. The 1910 U.S. Census records Arthur C. Flanders as a resident of Ione, with wife Eva, son Wayne and cousin Jennie Smith. By 1920 they are recorded as living in Spokane where Flanders worked as a powerhouse electrician. In 1930 they were living in Metaline Falls, where Flanders worked as a retail merchant. This is an undated photo estimated circa 1900–1909.
