Halloween good times coming up

NEWPORT — With Halloween coming up this Friday, here is a small compilation of local events that fall on the day of the holiday. Between festivals, carnivals, costume parties and of course, trick-or-treating, there’s plenty to choose from. All events listed below take place Friday, Oct. 31.

Edible Halloween Crafts

The Calispel Valley Library will host an edible Halloween craft session, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., including chocolate spiders and batty suckers. Come in costume or out and create creepy art that can be eaten. Ongoing from one hour after opening to one hour before closing. Children under 8 need a responsible caregiver onsite.

The library is located at 107 S.

1st Ave., Cusick.

Cutter Fall Festival

The Cutter Theatre Fall Festival returns, 1–3 p.m. There will be a short, child-friendly movie at 1 p.m., followed by carnival games at 1:30 p.m. and a costume contest at 2 p.m. There will be free corndogs.

The Metalines Community Library, which is inside the Cutter, will also be joining in the festivities with games and treats.

The Cutter is located at 302 Park St., Metaline Falls.

Downtown Newport Trickor- Treating Businesses in downtown Newport will handing out candy during the annual trick-or-treat celebration, 3–5 p.m. Newport City Hall will be serving free hotdogs.

Halloween on Main

The West Bonner Library District hosts Halloween on Main, 3–6 p.m. There will be local business trick-or-treating, a trunk-ortreat with decorated cars, games, prizes and a Harry Potter Escape Room where people can test their wizarding skills and break free before the clock runs out. This is a family-friendly event located in downtown Priest River. People are encouraged to come in costume.

Priest River Carnival Priest River Lamanna High School is hosting a Halloween Carnival, 4–7 p.m. There will be games, a caramel apple bar, cotton candy, a haunted house and a scary story in the “pumpkin patch.” Entry is free and concessions are available for a cost. This event is geared toward ages 5 and up.

Priest River Lamanna High School is located at 596 Hwy. 57.

Blanchard Trunk or Treat The Blanchard Community Center Trunk or Treat offers free chili, cider and hot chocolate, a prize for best decorated vehicle and of course, candy from 5–8 p.m. For those who want to hand out candy, come down between 3–5 p.m. to decorate your vehicle.

Blanchard Community Center is located at 685 Rusho Lane.

Cusick Legion Costume Party The Sons of The American Legion are hosting a Halloween costume party for their members and guests, 7–10:30 p.m. at the Cusick American Legion Post. There will be a vintage dance party featuring hits from The Beatles to The Zombies. Everyone who comes in costume gets a beverage chip. Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.

The Cusick Legion Post is located at 107 Timber St., Cusick.
