Vanderyacht Propane expands to former paper mill

USK — Vanderyacht Propane is opening a new location in Usk on Merkle Standard’s property, the former paper mill site.

In partnership with Merkle Standard and ownership team Allrise Capital, the Port of Pend Oreille announced Vanderyacht Propane’s expansion to the county in August. This marks the return of the first Washington-based rail shipper to operate regularly on the Pend Oreille Valley Railroad rail line, operated by the Port, since the paper mill’s closure.

Vanderyacht Propane has purchased and will operate the existing onsite propane tanks and railcar unloading equipment, bringing economic activity back to the industrial site, according to a Port news release. Operation is expected to stabilize wholesale propane pricing and supply for the region while creating local employment opportunities both on-site and within the region.

According to the news release, Vanderyacht Propane’s operations will complement existing activities at the site, such as Merkle Standard’s cryptocurrency data center operations. This development only uses a portion of the site’s available infrastructure, with capacity remaining for additional businesses.

“This partnership shows we’re taking the right steps to build momentum and create steady economic growth for our community,” said Port economic development director Jessica Garza.

“We’re committed to bringing businesses here that will be good neighbors and contribute to Pend Oreille County’s long-term success.”
