Woman hit by train dies near Priest River

PRIEST RIVER — A woman was struck by a freight train Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Parr Road crossing near Hidden Lane, about 12 miles from Priest River.

The adult female was struck by the train as it was travelling northbound at about 9:03 p.m., according to an Idaho State Police news release. She was pronounced dead on the scene. Confirmation of her identity is still pending investigation.

All rail traffic on the line was halted for about four hours. The Bonner County Sheriff’s Office and Priest River Police Department were on scene assisting.

Public meeting on Priest River Bridge replacement

PRIEST RIVER – There will be a public meeting about the Priest River Bridge replacement on Highway 2 on Thursday, Nov. 6, 4-6 p.m., at the Priest River Event Center. It will be in an open house format, so people can stop by at their convenience to view displays, talk with the project team, and provide feedback. Idaho Transportation Department planning and design teams are focused on evaluating replacement options. Public input will help shape the final design, construction phasing, and ultimately, a more precise cost estimate.

Enter chili cook-off for Cusick Food Bank

CUSICK – The Cusick American Legion is hosting a Chili Cook-off fundraiser for the Cusick Food Bank Sunday, Nov. 9, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Contest entry is $20, with the top three vote getters receiving prizes from the Kalispel Tribe. First place is a one-night stay at Norther Quest Resort and Casino in Airway Heights, second will be two tickets to a show of choice at Northern Quest and third will be dinner for two at East Pan Asian Cuisine at Northern Quest.

Enter by calling or texting 509-385-2404. A $10 donation includes chili tasting and voting for favorites. Curt Holmes from the Tribal Council will match whatever money is raised up to $1,000.

All proceeds go to the Cusick Food Bank. The Cusick American Legion is located at 105 Timber St., Cusick.

Free food distribution Nov. 6

NEWPORT – There will be a 2nd Harvest Free Food distribution Thursday, Nov. 6 at the Newport Rodeo Grounds from 10 a.m. to noon. This is a drive-thru event while supplies last. The distribution is sponsored by the American Lutheran Church of Newport and no appointment or documentation is required.

The rodeo grounds are located at Garden Avenue across from 103 Garden Ave. in Newport.
