Shaving for socks

Newport High School principal Steve Bouldin getting his head shaved by a student in front of the whole school Monday, Nov. 3 in Newport. Bouldin, assistant principal-athletic director Brett Mackey and teacher Jordan Marshall pledged to do so as incentives for Socktober, a month-long sock drive where Newport students and staff donated socks in support of local military, veterans and Gold Star families. By the end of the month, the school had collected 2,679 pairs of socks — more than 10 times its original goal of 250.
