Newport cross-country medaled at the WIAA State XC Championships for the first time in over 20 years, according to coach Morgan Johnson. Senior Aimee Busby placed 13th in the girls’ 5,000-meter varsity race with a time of 20:12 at last week’s state meet in Pasco, Friday-Saturday, Nov. 7-8. The top 16 racers won medals. Sophomore Olivia Collins finished 35th out of 143 runners, clocking in at 21:41. “I am very proud of Aimee and Olivia’s entire season, their accomplishments and their performance at the state championship,” Johnson said.
