There are several Second Harvest mobile markets a year in Newport, but the one held Thursday, Nov. 6 at the Newport Rodeo Grounds drew the biggest crowd of the year.
Food was provided to 465 families, according to Debbie Buckley, chairman of the mission and social concerns committee of the American Lutheran Church, one of the event’s coordinators.
“That was 100 more families than the last one,” she said.
License plates from Idaho, Montana and Washington were among the 261 cars that came through.
Families could get items such as pears, canned goods, lunch meat and eggs.
American Lutheran Church hosts five Second Harvest Mobile Markets a year. They are held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Newport Rodeo Grounds and RV Park.
