Garage fire

A firefighter battles a blaze at a garage on South Washington Avenue in Newport about

2 p.m. Friday. Firefighters were able to keep the blaze from spreading. There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. The City of Newport provided a backhoe for equipment support, Pend Oreille County Fire District 2, Spokane Fire District 4, Pend Oreille County Fire District 4 and West Pend Oreille Fire assisted with the fire.
