BRIEFLY Traveling troupe performing Christmas play

NEWPORT — Out of the Box Entertainment is performing a Christmas play this month.

“Merry Christmas Mr. Marconi” is a light and humorous, feel-good holiday experience written by local playwright and actress Gail Cory-Betz and directed by Donna Maki. In the play, a family waits for the return of France’s soldier husband on Christmas Eve. Traditional Christmas music and live radio shows are sprinkled throughout.

The traveling theatre troupe encourages locals to experience the warmth of the season by attending the play. Tickets are now $10 for adults and $5 for children.

There are four show dates and locations: the first at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 at the American Lutheran Church in Newport, the second at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at Spirit Lake Presbyterian Church, the third at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23 at Create Arts Center in Newport and the fourth at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30 at the Cusick American Legion. The fourth and final show also includes light tea served by the American Legion, with tickets costing $15 for adults and $10 for children.

PRIEST LAKE — The Priest Lake Library is hosting more events during the month of November. It is closing on Thursday, Nov. 27 and Friday, Nov. 28.

MG teaching class on ‘Edible Landscaping’

NEWPORT — A Master Gardener and certified permaculture designer is presenting on the principles of permaculture and their application to edible landscaping.

Kamori Cattadoris’ presentation on permaculture will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13 at the Create Arts Center, 900 4th St. in Newport. According to a Master Gardener news release, permaculture is a holistic design approach that integrates environmental, functional and aesthetic considerations to create sustainable and productive landscapes.

Cattadoris’ session will focus on the strategic selection and arrangement of perennial plants, complemented by edible and otherwise useful species, to create harmonious and functional outdoor spaces.

Create hosting concert with special guest

NEWPORT — More music is coming to Create Arts Center this weekend.

Create is hosting a concert at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15 featuring Bridges Home. They are Tami Belzer- Gunter and Dave Gunter, both lead vocalists and multi-instrumentalists. According to a Create news release, they are sharing a variety of music with their “stageful” of instruments. The music they perform includes high-energy Celtic, bluegrass, originals and foot-stomping roots. A special guest, Joanne Heniz, will join Bridges Home on mountain dulcimer.

METALINE FALLS — The Cutter Theatre is soon to hold this year’s annual Turkey Bingo at 1 and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16.

Blackout prizes will be turkeys from the Falls Market. There will be many new prizes, according to a Cutter Theatre news release. The cost to play is still $5 per card for a session and $5 for lunch.
