NEWPORT — STCU is focusing on food security for its annual Season of Giving.
The nonprofit credit union has set aside at least $300,000 for surprise donations to dozens of food assistance programs throughout eastern Washington, northern Idaho and northeastern Oregon. STCU is encouraging community members to contribute by offering grants matching any donations made to STCU’s Here for Good Foundation in November. STCU is also offering to match donations up to $50,000 STCU employees to any nonprofit organization, including those that assist with food security.
As board president of the nonprofit Partners Inland Northwest, STCU president and CEO Lindsey Myhre has witnessed the growing demand for food. According to an STCU news release, wages have not kept pace with the cost of living for many individuals and families.
“Thousands of our neighbors are facing uncertainty about putting nutritious food on the table, just as winter and the holidays are approaching,” Myhre said in the news release. “STCU wants to help, and to set an example for others who are able to help.”
