NEWPORT — Scores of Newport Hospital and Health Services employees converged in late October for the 2025 Skills Fair, a training event held over the course of three days.

The Skills Fair accomplished three main purposes, said Adam Wiltse, manager of organizational development at NHHS.

The primary one is training. Employees visited 21 different booths representing departments within the public hospital district. At each, they had the chance to learn or refresh skills.

The other two event objectives were more about building camaraderie among teammates. Wiltse said as NHHS employees learn more about the great work happening throughout the organization, it builds pride and appreciation across departments. Finally, the Skills Fair helps NHHS teammates get to know one another better. With more than 400 employees working at Newport Community Hospital, Newport Health Center, Seeber’s Pharmacy and the two River Mountain Village campuses, the Skills Fair provides a rare opportunity for connection.

For many NHHS employees, the Skills Fair is also a chance to meet continuing education requirements in person, an option that is becoming more and more rare.

“So much learning has moved online,” Wiltse said. “It’s nice to provide an opportunity for people to interact with the content and ask questions.”
