BRIEFLY Northwoods Performing Arts presenting seasonal celebration

NEWPORT — Northwoods Performing Arts is soon to present its seasonal celebration at Circle Moon Theater in Newport.

Directed by Mark D. Caldwell, “One Magic Night at the Manger” spotlights the birth of Jesus Christ, which has inspired many holiday celebrations. The performance features chorale, solo and ensemble songs of the season.

Scheduled performances are on Dec. 5, 6, 9, 11, 12 and 13. Tickets are $14 for Show Only, $35 for Dinner Show and $45 for Gala Night, a dinner-only performance. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dining service begins at 6:30 p.m. and the curtain opens at 7:30 p.m.

HooRays Catering is serving prime rib at the Gala Night Thursday, Dec. 5 and Salisbury steak Thursday, Dec. 11, Mi Pueblo chicken fajitas Friday, Dec. 6, Country Snack Shack ham Saturday, Dec. 6 and Owen’s Catering ham Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 13.

Free diaper depot set for Dec. 6

NEWPORT — Free diapers, clothing and supplies for children up to 5 years old will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6 at St. Anthony Catholic Church at 612 W. First Street in Newport. The church also promises lots of food and drink, along with music, treats and gifts.

Christmas play opening this week

NEWPORT — Out of the Box Entertainment is performing a Christmas play this month.

“Merry Christmas Mr. Marconi” is a light and humorous, feel-good holiday experience written by local playwright and actress Gail Cory-Betz and directed by Donna Maki. In the play, a family waits for the return of France’s soldier husband on Christmas Eve.

Traditional Christmas music and live radio shows are sprinkled throughout.

The traveling theatre troupe encourages locals to experience the warmth of the season by attending the play. Tickets are now $10 for adults and $5 for children. There are four show dates and locations: the first at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 21 at the American Lutheran Church in Newport, the second at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22 at Spirit Lake Presbyterian Church, the third at 3 p.m.

Sunday, Nov. 23 at Create Arts Center in Newport and the fourth at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30 at the Cusick American Legion. The fourth and final show also includes light tea served by the American Legion, with tickets costing $15 for adults and $10 for children.

Create hosting holiday artists shop

NEWPORT — A holiday artists shop is opening at Create Arts Center from Thursday, Dec. 4 to Sunday, Dec. 7.

The shop’s hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4 to Saturday, Dec. 6 and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 7. Among the art for sale will be oil paintings, fiber and wood art, Czech glass bead art, pottery, fused glass art, wire art and “women of the woods.”.

There will also be refreshments and live music.
