Leininger leaves office Dec. 9
METALINE FALLS Metaline Falls Mayor Tara Leininger will be handing over the gavel to mayor- elect Sherice McAnerin at the end of the regular council meeting on Dec. 9. Realizing that there was little left to be done, both Leininger and McAnerin agreed that it was a good decision.
“Sherice is ready to get started, and as my desk is pretty cleared and ready for her, it just makes sense,” Leininger said.
Leininger has invited McAnerin to join her with Santa at the “Deck the Falls” parade on Dec. 5, one of the perks of being the Metaline Falls mayor.
Leininger has been in office for 18 years. She says not only did she enjoy the work, but no one else wanted the job till this past election. Leininger is second in years in service to the town, behind George Kubota who served as mayor for 24 years, with eight years prior and nine years after on the town council.
Leininger sought another term but didn’t get through the Primary Election, in which she was outpolled by McAnerin and Walter Minsal.
