Swain Defensive MVP, Duxbury Coach of the Year
NEWPORT – Eight Newport Grizzlies football players were selected to the Northeast 2B League’s All League offensive and defensive teams, with junior Ares Swain named Defensive Player of the Year and head coach Mark Duxbury selected as Coach of the Year.
Three Newport players were named to both offensive and defensive All League teams. Junior lineman Rayben Jurgens, senior running back and linebacker Jacob Reimers and Swain, an offensive lineman and defensive lineman, were chosen for both All League defensive and offensive teams.
Junior defensive lineman Damien Hamburg, sophomore defensive lineman Landon Hall, senior linebacker Brad Martin, along with Reimers and Swain were selected for the defensive All League first team.
Junior running back Kutter Driver and senior offensive lineman Robert Warren joined running back Reimers, Jurgens, also a lineman and Swain as offensive All League first team selections. Hamburg was also named to the All-League second team as a lineman.
First year head coach Mark Duxbury was named the league’s Coach of the Year. Duxbury guided the team to an undefeated league season and championship and to the quarter finals of the 2A state championship tournament.
