CUSICK — The Cusick High School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams started their season this week with an away game against Tekoa Rosalia Tuesday, Dec. 2 after The Miner’s weekly deadline.
Both teams play Springdale in another away game this Friday, Dec. 5. The girls go first at 6 p.m., followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.
Only the boys go to Wilbur Creston at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, with the girls’ game that night canceled.
The boys and girls then host Valley Christian Tuesday, Dec. 9. Like with Springdale, the girls go at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
Lady Spartans playing three more games
PRIEST RIVER — After hosting Kellogg Tuesday, Dec. 2 after The Miner’s weekly deadline, the Priest River Lamanna High School girls’ basketball team is playing three more games.
The first is away against Clark Fork at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4. Friday, Dec. 5, Priest River hosts Orofino at 3:30 p.m.
In another border rival battle, the Spartans then host the Newport Grizzlies at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9.
Grizzly basketball takes off
NEWPORT – The Newport Grizzlies boys’ and girls’ basketball teams have a busy first week, with games Monday, Thursday and Friday.
Newport started their season with a jamboree at Chewelah’s Jenkins High Monday, Dec. 1.
They next go to Riverside Thursday, Dec. 4, with the girls playing at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.
Friday, Dec. 5, the girls and boys host Colville at 5:45 and 7:15 p.m.
Spartans drop first game
SPIRIT LAKE – The Priest River Spartans boys’ basketball team had their first game of the season Monday, Dec. 1, losing an away game 68-42 to Timberlake.
The Spartans had a cold first quarter, scoring three points to Timberlake’s 15. Priest River came roaring back in the second quarter, outscoring Timberlake 17-13, but still trailed 28-20 at the half. Timberlake controlled the second half, holding Priest River to nine points in the final quarter.
Ian Lamanna had a game high 18 points for the Spartans.
The Priest River boys’ basketball team opens their home season Friday, Dec. 5, with a game against Orofino, starting at 6 p.m.
Adna stopped in semi finals
KENNEWICK – The Adna Pirates fell 34-28 to Tri Cities Prep in the state 2B football championship tournament Saturday, Nov. 29. Tri Cities Prep will face Toledo for the state 2B championship Saturday, Dec. 6 in the University of Washington’s Husky Stadium. Toledo beat Okanogan 24-8 in their semifinals game Nov. 29. Adna stopped Newport 42-32 in the Grizzlies only loss of the season Nov. 22, in the quarterfinals at Eastern Washington University in Cheney.
