NEWPORT — Friends of the Library are asking people to give the gift of literacy by sponsoring free books for a toddler. Now through June 30, 2026, a monthly $3 donation or $36 for six months will deliver a book to a Pend Oreille County child’s mailbox. Deck The Falls Saturday

METALINE FALLS — The annual Cutter Theatre Deck the Falls is Saturday, Dec. 6 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with vendors selling crafts, art and various handmade and homemade items on every floor. There will also be lunch.

The Cutter Theatre is located at 302 Park St., Metaline Falls.

Toy swap this weekend

OLDTOWN — The first annual St. Nick’s Toy Swap is Saturday, Dec. 6 to Sunday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Oldtown Visitor Center at Rotary Park. Participants can bring their gently used toys and swap for other toys for their children. It’s a chance for the community to come together and let families shop for free. To donate, email [email protected] to set up a daytime meet-up or evening porch pickup. Toys should be cleaned and sanitized for their new home before donation.

The Oldtown Visitor Center is located at 68 Old Diamond Mill Rd.

Smithsonian exhibit comes to Priest River

PRIEST RIVER — The West Bonner Library District announces the opening of Voices and Votes: Democracy in America Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025 to Friday, Jan. 9, 2026 at Priest River Library.

Presented through the Smithsonian Museum on Main Street program, Voices and Votes is based on a major exhibition at the National Museum of American History and examines how Americans have engaged with the democratic process — from revolution and suffrage to civil rights and civic participation today. The exhibition draws connections between past and present and encourages visitors to consider what democracy means in their own communities.

The Voices & Votes: Democracy in America exhibit is sponsored by the West Bonner Library District, the Idaho Humanities Council and the Smithsonian Institution. The exhibit is open during library hours.

The Priest River Library is located at 118 Main St.

NPA opening Christmas show Friday

NEWPORT — Northwoods Performing Arts is soon to present its seasonal celebration at Circle Moon Theater in Newport.

Directed by Mark D. Caldwell, “One Magic Night at the Manger” spotlights the birth of Jesus Christ, which has inspired many holiday celebrations. The performance features chorale, solo and ensemble songs of the season.

Scheduled performances are on Dec. 5, 6, 9, 11, 12 and 13. Tickets are $14 for Show Only, $35 for Dinner Show and $45 for Gala Night, a dinner-only performance. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dining service begins at 6:30 p.m. and the curtain opens at 7:30 p.m.
