Cusick boys open with win

TEKOA – The Cusick boys’ basketball team opened their season with a 76-32 Northeast B League game with Tekoa-Rosalia Tuesday, Dec. 2.

“We had 30 steals in that game,” Cusick coach Raymone Ostlie says.

Daniel Lyon was the top scorer with 30 points.

Thomas Sullivan scored 21.

“The bench players contributed too,” Ostlie says. “I think everyone scored.”

The Panthers followed it up by beating Springdale 71-64 Friday, Dec.

5, at Springdale. The next night, Saturday, Dec. 6, the boys went to Wilbur to play Wilbur- Creston-Keller, a game they lost 72-58.

Cusick next plays Inchelium at home Friday, Dec 12 at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday they head to Northport for a 7:30 p.m. game and Tuesday, Dec.

16 are home again for a game with Selkirk that also starts at 7:30 p.m.

Wylie quits as Spartan basketball coach

PRIEST RIVER — Kevin Wylie has quit as boys’ basketball coach for Priest River. Mason Clark, the junior varsity coach, is interim coach until a new head coach is hired. Gary Stewart is assisting.

A Dec. 5 game with Orofino was cancelled.

According to the Priest River website, which is subject to change, the Spartans next host Newport for a game at 7 p.m.

Wednesday, Dec. 10. The Spartans travel to Riverside for a Friday game at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec.

12, are home for a 3 p.m. game with Grangeville Saturday, Dec. 13 and home for a 7 p.m. game with Riverside Tuesday, Dec. 16.

Selkirk wins gold at

Dick Griswold Invite

POTLATCH – Selkirk started the wrestling season victorious, traveling three hours to Potlatch, Idaho for the Dick Griswold Invitational where Jameson Davis at 165 pounds and Jaxson Chantry at 157 pounds both took gold in their weight divisions. Tristan Vanarsdall at 190 won third. Slate Parker went 1-1 before hurting his knee and taking a medical forfeiture.

“We were really excited for his first ever win since he has never wrestled before,” head coach JL Chantry says.

Archer Gaines, also a first-year wrestler, went 0-2 and Silex Parker didn’t compete this weekend.

Coming up is the Brice Williams Invitational at Spangle High School Saturday, Dec. 13, followed by a league match at Chewelah Wednesday, Dec. 17.
