BRIEFLY Check out these upcoming holiday events

BLANCHARD – December means holiday events and activities abound on both sides of the Washington/Idaho border. Most of them are free to the public, some cost a nominal fee to help support a local non-profit. They are sorted by date, so please read closely, as there may be multiple events on the same day.

Wednesday and Thursday, Dec. 10-11

“How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, a new adaptation of the Dr. Suess classic, will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 10-11 in Newport High School cafeteria. Admission costs $5 for adults and $3 for children, with free baked goods.

Saturday, Dec. 13

Santa’s Workshop: The 3rd Annual Elk Santa’s Workshop is at the Country Church of The Open Bible, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All kids ages 4-13 shop free and presents are wrapped by volunteer elves. The event serves Elk, Newport, Usk, Cusick, Blanchard, Deer Park and surrounding areas. Parents can enjoy cookies and cocoa while they enter in the raffle for various prizes. Funds for the raffle items will be donated to the event photographer and the Elk Food Pantry. Kids’ Christmas Party: The Blanchard Community Center hosts the Kids’ Christmas Party, 2 to 4 p.m.

This event is geared toward ages up to 14 and children must be accompanied by an adult. There will be free hot chocolate, cookies, children’s crafts and music.

Santa Claus will also be there. Adults can wear an ugly Christmas sweater for a chance to win prizes.

Sunday, Dec. 14

Echoes of Grace and Friends Christmas Concert: There will be a free Christmas concert at the Cutter Theatre at 5 p.m. There is a soup dinner before the concert at 4 p.m. and dinner is $5 per person. Reservations are suggested for dinner by Monday, Dec. 1.

The Cutter is located at 302 Park St., Metaline Falls.

Saturday, Dec. 20

Visit Santa’s Reindeer: People can get their photos taken with Santa’s reindeer for free, including cookies and hot chocolate, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kalispel Casino. Santa Claus will be there noon-2 p.m.

The Kalispel Casino is located at 420 Qlispe’ River Way, Cusick.

Free Christmas Movies: The Roxy’s free Christmas Movie Marathon starts with the doors opening at noon, followed by “A Charlie Brown Christmas” at 12:15 p.m. and 2018’s “The Grinch” at 1 p.m. The ugly sweater contest is at 2:30 p.m., so people are encouraged to wear a hideous Christmas sweater. “Elf” starts at 3 p.m. and “Home Alone” is the last movie at 4:45 p.m.

Admission is free and regular concession prices still apply. The Roxy is located at 120 S. Washington Ave., Newport.

NPA continues Christmas show

NEWPORT — Northwoods Performing Arts is continuing its seasonal celebration at Circle Moon Theater in Newport. Directed by Mark D. Caldwell, “One Magic Night at the Manger” spotlights the birth of Jesus Christ, which has inspired many holiday celebrations.

The performance features chorale, solo and ensemble songs of the season.

Three more performances are scheduled on Thursday, Dec. 11, Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 13.

Tickets are $14 for Show Only, $35 for Dinner Show and $45 for Gala Night, a dinner-only performance.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dining service begins at 6:30 p.m. and the curtain opens at 7:30 p.m.

Circle Moon Theater is on Highway 211, 3-and-a-half miles north of Highway 2.
