Lady Rangers hunt Panthers

CUSICK — The Selkirk High School girls’ basketball team won their first game of the season against Cusick, a rival in the Northeast 1B North league, 45-34.

Cusick (2-5, 1-4) hosted Selkirk (7-1, 5-0) Tuesday, Dec. 16.

“We executed our defensive game plan pretty well,” Selkirk coach Kelly Cain says.

Selkirk and Cusick were evenly matched in the first half, reaching intermission with Selkirk at 21 points and Cusick at 20. The Panthers fell further behind in the third quarter, heading into the fourth with the Rangers 32-25. Cusick only managed to score nine more points by the end of the game, where Selkirk scored 13 more points.

“Marisa Lyons had an outstanding defensive game for us while drawing a tough matchup,” Cain says. “Jessa Culianan and Millie Rice helped us win the rebounding battle by 13 which was important because we had eight more turnovers than Cusick.”

Millie Rice had scoring and rebounding that night. She was top scorer with 29 points and had 11 rebounds. Jessa Culianan was top rebounder with 12 rebounds and Marisa Lyons six assists.
