BRIEFLY

NEWPORT — Friends of the Library are asking people to give the gift of literacy by sponsor-ing free books for a toddler.

Now through June 30, 2026, a monthly $3 donation or $36 for six months will deliver a book to a Pend Oreille County child's mailbox.

Libraries hold story times Monday, Tuesday

NEWPORT — There will be story times held at three Pend Oreille County libraries Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 29–30.

Children and their families are invited to enjoy a story and then do a craft, play games or color. In December, participants are making winter scenes using bubble wrap, playing board games and making and decorating gingerbread men and firework blowers to ring in the New Year.

All ages are welcome. Monday, Dec. 29, the Metaline Community Library will have theirs at 11 a.m., the Calispel Val-ley Library in Cusick will have a story time at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30 and the Ione Library will hold theirs at 11 a.m., also on Tuesday, according to the library district’s website. The Newport Library normally hold its story time on Wednesdays, but all Pend Oreille County li-braries will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 31 and Thursday, Jan. 1.
