USK – A misdemeanor turned into a felony when a 28-year-old man allegedly fled from police after a routine traffic stop in the Usk/Cusick area Thursday, Dec. 18.

According to a press release from the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office, on the morning of Dec. 18, deputies saw a gray and white Chevrolet truck with no visible license plates. The deputies attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle wouldn’t pull over. According to the press release, the truck continued through Usk and disappeared into a wooded area. Deputies found the vehicle, but the driver had already fled on foot. A drone and a tracking dog were brought in to search for the suspect. Law enforcement eventually found the suspect, Zachary Davis, 28, of the Newport/ Priest River area.

“By refusing to pull over, Mr. Davis’s actions turned a simple misdemeanor for driving on a suspended license into an additional felony charge for eluding police,” the press release read.

Kalispel Tribal Police, Washington State Patrol, Fish and Wildlife, Newport City Police, United States Border Patrol and others assisted with the search.
