OLDTOWN – The spirit of the season filled Idaho Hill Elementary’s gymnasium as students took the stage for the school’s annual Christmas music program, delighting families, staff, and community members with an evening of festive performances, according to school staff.

“Students from each grade level participated, showcasing weeks of hard work and practice through a variety of holiday songs and musical selections. From cheerful classics of Deck the Halls and Holly Jolly Christmas to peaceful seasonal favorites like Silent Night and Joy to the World, the program reflected both the joy and meaning of the Christmas season,” according to a press release.

The evening opened with sixth grader Emcee, Zaden Sevy, who took everyone on an adventure: a quest to discover something he called The Spark of the Season, connecting each grade’s selected songs to a clue.

After Kindergarten completed Jingle Bells and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Sevy connected their performance and the first clue to The Spark of the Season to WONDER, explaining, “It’s the feeling I get when everything is new, exciting, and full of possibility – like jingling bells or a reindeer whose nose glows brighter than my phone screen at 2 a.m.”

While younger students confidently sang holiday favorites, earning smiles and applause from the audience, the older students demonstrated their own growing musical skills through coordinated vocals, including sixth grade’s performance of Bobby Helms’ Jingle Bell Rock. Before they sang, however, the third graders’ performance of Santa Claus is Coming to Town earned a smile from everyone in the room when Santa appeared.

The concert concluded with Sevy’s heartwarming message, reminding everyone of the importance of community, kindness, and togetherness during the holidays.

The music teacher and classroom teachers worked diligently behind the scenes to prepare students for the performance, while families packed the gymnasium to show their support. The program not only highlighted students’ musical talents but also emphasized the value of teamwork, dedication, and school spirit.

“The Christmas music program remains a cherished tradition at the school, offering students an opportunity to shine and creating lasting memories for families,” staff said. “As the final notes echoed through the gym, the audience left with full hearts, holiday cheer, and, for some, a treasured picture with Santa.”
