Frost to Flowers features local artists, free snacks and live music by Joanne Heinz on the dulcimer.

Friends seeking children’s book sponsors

NEWPORT — Friends of the Library are asking people to give the gift of literacy by sponsoring free books for a toddler.

Now through June 30, 2026, a monthly $3 donation or $36 for six months will deliver a book to a Pend Oreille County child’s mailbox.

Begin Gardening with Master Gardeners

NEWPORT — The Washington State University Pend Oreille County Master Gardeners host a Beginning Gardening class at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8. The session will be held at the WSU Extension Office, located at 227 S. Garden Ave. in Newport.

This class is designed for those new to gardening or anyone looking to refresh their skills.

Learn the basics of planning, soil preparation, watering, seed and plant selection, planting, maintenance and harvesting.

The class fee is $5 and can be paid by cash, check, money order or through PayPal. To register for this class, contact Beverly Sarles, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Moonlit Reads meeting in Mi Pueblo

NEWPORT — Join Moonlit Reads: A Romance Book Club for their January discussion of “Funny Story” by Emily Henry 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8 at Mi Pueblo in Newport.

“Funny Story” is about a woman who finds her ex-fiancé’s new girlfriend living with her, leading to an unexpected friendship and romance as they navigate their new living situation and shared history.

The book can be checked out at a local library or on reading apps Libby or Hoopla.
