Rangers fall to top of league

IONE – The Selkirk Rangers boys’ basketball team lost three games last week to the top three teams in the Northeast 1B league.

They lost 66-25 to No. 3 ranked Inchelium at home Tuesday, Jan. 6. Friday, Jan. 9, they went to Republic, where they lost 64-51 to the No. 2 ranked school in the league and Saturday, Jan. 10, they fell 72-49 to the league’s No. 1 team Northport.

Keaton Arrastio led Ranger scoring in the three games, with 22 against Inchelium, 21 against Republic and 15 against Northport.

Kipton Corkill scored 17 points in the Inchelium game and a dozen against Republic.

Arrastio also had 20 rebounds against Republic and a dozen against Inchelium. Paxson Larson grabbing 12 in the Inchelium game and Lane Reed pulled down 13 rebounds against Inchelium.

Selkirk (2-6, 4-8) is in fifth place in the Northeast 1B league, behind Cusick (3-6, 6-7), Inchelium (5-2, 10-3), Republic (5-1, 7-4) and Northport (7-0, 10-4). The Rangers are ahead of Curlew (1-5, 3-11) and Columbia-Hunters (1-6, 2-9).

The Rangers played at Curlew after the newspaper’s print deadline Tuesday, Jan. 13. Selkirk hosts Columbia Friday, Jan. 16, at 7:30 p.m. The next day, Saturday, Jan. 17 the Rangers go to Nespelem for a 3:30 p.m. game and Tuesday, Jan. 20, Selkirk goes to Northport for a game.
