Panther boys lose three

CUSICK – The Cusick Panthers boys’ basketball team lost all three games last week, losing 73-62 to Northport, the league’s top ranked team Tuesday, Jan. 6. Cusick fell 77-47 to Curlew Friday, Jan. 9 in an away game, then lost at home 72-60 to Republic Saturday, Jan. 10.

Further information was not available.

Cusick (3-6, 6-7) played Inchelium Tuesday, Jan. 13 after the newspaper went to print. The Panthers host Nespelem Thursday, Jan. 15 at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16 they go to Hunters for a game with Columbia at 6 p.m. Cusick plays in the Martin Luther King Tournament in Newport Monday, Jan. 19 and Tuesday they go to Republic for a game at 7:30 p.m.

Lady Panthers struggling

CUSICK — The Cusick High School girls’ basketball team lost three games last week, putting the Panthers in sixth place in the Northeast 1B North league.

The first was Tuesday, Jan. 6 at home against Northport (9-3, 4-3), who Cusick (2-9, 1-8) lost to 42-39.

Cusick next visited Curlew (9-4, 4-3) Friday, Jan. 9, losing 44-33.

The Panthers ended the week at home Saturday, Jan. 10 against Republic (10-0, 6-0). They lost 59-42.

Tuesday, Jan. 13 after The Miner’s weekly deadline, Cusick visited Inchelium.

Cusick has two upcoming away games. The first is against Columbia at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, and the second is against Republic at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Lady Spartans lose twice

PRIEST RIVER — The Priest River Lamanna High School girls’ basketball team lost both their games last weekend, putting them in fourth place in the 3A Central Idaho league.

Friday, Jan. 9, Priest River (5-6, 2-3) visited Orofino (5-7, 2-0), losing 43-33. The Spartans fell behind Orofino 11-3 after the first quarter and couldn’t take the lead despite scoring 10 points in the second, third and fourth quarters.

Leading in points that night was McKinley Burgess- Duquette. She had 15 points, with Aleigha Jensen adding 11.

Priest River next visited Grangeville (8-4, 3-0) Saturday, Jan. 10, losing 66-22. Grangeville took a 23-4 lead from the first quarter, which the Spartans couldn’t overtake through the end of the fourth.

Their Wednesday, Jan. 7 away game against Kootenai Community Church was cancelled.

Priest River visits Kellogg at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, before hosting Clark Fork at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 19.

Spartan wrestlers on the road

PRIEST RIVER – The Spartan varsity wrestling team heads to Lewiston Friday, Jan. 16.
