NEWPORT – South Pend Oreille Fire and Rescue (SPOFR) responded to a residential fire off Highway 2 Monday morning, Jan. 12.
“An aggressive interior attack saved the home and isolated the fire to the room of origin,” chief Shane Stocking said on SPOFR’s Facebook page. “I couldn’t be more proud of our members making a quick attack and rescuing a small cat, let alone saving the house. Our hearts go out to the homeowner though, and we stand by to provide whatever we can to assist through a tough time.”
As with other recent fires, SPOFR’s significant volunteer base and full-time staffing was able to handle this incident and backfill coverage without requiring any mutual aid resources from neighboring departments, according to Stocking. He added that this is the fourth structure fire SPOFR has responded to in two weeks.
