LEWISTON – The Newport wrestling team grappled their way to fifth place overall out of 26 teams at the Clearwater Classic Tournament in Lewiston, Friday-Saturday, Jan. 16-17.

Ares Swain led the way with a first-place win in the 190-pound weight bracket. Gavvin Carter was second at 157. Lucas Swain finished fourth at 285. Markis Teeples finished fifth at 165. Preston Wacenske, 144, and Tyson Nunley, 138, both finished sixth.
Newport hosts Northwest Christian Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. The Grizzlies travel to Freeman for a dual Thursday, Jan. 22 with weigh-in at 4 p.m. and wrestling at 5 p.m. Priest River comes to Newport Tuesday, Jan. 27, for the Battle at The Border. After that, Chewelah visits the following Wednesday, Jan. 28. Both duals start at 6 p.m.
