NEWPORT — A community forum will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Public Utility District building in Newport where hospital administrators and Newport School District Superintendent Dave Smith will give presentations. Each presentation will be followed by an opportunity to ask questions.
“This community forum will provide an opportunity for residents to learn about important local issues and hear directly from key leaders,” according to the news release announcing the event.
Smith will talk about the upcoming levy and bond election. He will discuss what the election entails, its implications for the district and how it may affect local education, according to a news release from the forum’s organizers.
Administration representatives from Newport Hospital & Health Services will discuss several pressing concerns and challenges currently facing the hospital. This segment will focus on local health care issues relevant to the community.
While the hospital district and school district did not organize the event, they agreed to participate and take questions, said Martha Nichols, one of the event’s organizers.
After each presentation, there will be a facilitated question-and-answer session. Attendees are encouraged to engage with the presenters and seek clarification or further information about the topics discussed.
This forum is intended solely for the discussion of local concerns and challenges. It is not a venue for expressing or debating broader political views, whether state or national. The goal is to foster a constructive dialogue centered on issues affecting the Newport region.
The event will take place in the PUD conference room, off Pine Street in Newport at the PUD building at 130 N. Washington Ave. in Newport.
All community members are welcome to attend.
