NEWPORT — The Pend Oreille County Library District is excited to announce its participation in Take Your Child to the Library Day, a national initiative that encourages families to discover the resources, programs and opportunities their local library offers.
Families who attend the event will receive a free book for each child to keep. In addition, families will receive a gift certificate to a local business, reinforcing the library’s commitment to supporting both literacy and the local economy.
Take Your Child to the Library Day highlights the important role libraries play in strengthening families and communities. Libraries provide free access to books, educational resources, technology and programs that support early literacy, lifelong learning and family engagement. As a recreational anchor in the community, the library brings families together through free, accessible programs and activities that enrich quality of life for residents of all ages.
“Libraries are more than buildings with books — they are community hubs that support education, connection and opportunity for all ages,” library director Mandy Walters said. “Events like Take Your Child to the Library Day help families see how the library can be a valuable partner as their children grow.”
The event takes place on Saturday, Feb. 7 at all Pend Oreille County Library locations during open hours. All families with children are welcome to attend. Books and gift certificates will be available while supplies last.
