Newport wrestling did well hosting Northwest Christian Wednesday, Jan. 21 despite a couple of forfeits and a few losses. Sophomore Trenden Ellsion, 132 pounds, won over Jentezen Brown by a fall at 1 minute and 40 seconds into the first round. Sophomore Gavvin Carter,165, beat Hudson Somes in a 7-1 decision. Senior Markis Teeples, 175, won by a fall over Corban Benson at 3:25. In the 285-weight bracket Conner McQuinn, a sophomore, won by fall over Phillip Bak at 19 seconds. Newport hosted Priest River in the Battle of The Border Jan. 27 after deadline, then hosts Chewelah Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. Pictured above is Grizzly wrestler Tyson Nunley, who fought hard but lost by fall to Ryder Harmon.
