VALLEY CHRISTIAN – The Selkirk Ranger boys’ basketball team (8-10, 4-8) beat a good Wilbur-Creston-Keller team (6-7, 4-5) 58-46 in a loser out game at Valley Christian Saturday, Jan. 31. They move on to play top-seeded Northport in a quarter final game Wednesday, Jan. 4 at Northport at 6:30 p.m.
The Rangers lost 50-47 the first time the teams met in December, but they got the win when it counted most Saturday.
“WKC is a very physical team, and I thought our guys matched that physicality all night,” Ranger coach Brodie Larson said. “We played great defense, rebounded well and competed on every possession. It was a gritty playoff win against a solid team.”
Keaton Arrastio had four steals and four blocked shots to go with 13 rebounds. Lane Reed had a half dozen rebounds. Zach Van Meer blocked a shot and had two steals. Paxon Larson had four steals.
Offensively, Arrastio scored 23 points and Kipton Corkill scored 10. Larson hit the Rangers’ only 3-pointer.
“Our seniors led the way, our backcourt was solid, and we got huge contributions from the guys off the bench,” Larson said. “It was a complete team effort.”
The Northport game will be a challenge. The Mustangs (15-5, 11-1) beat Selkirk 72-49 in January.
