PRIEST RIVER — Just in time for Valentines and Mother’s Day, Anna Mortensen will be teach-ing a class the basics of using a Cricut machine to make colorful cutouts for multiple uses at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Priest River Library.
All the card making supplies will be available, from stamps to papers and bobbles for partic-ipants to make their own custom cards. There will be several Cricuts on hand for use as well.
There is no cost for the class, but registration is required. Open to ages 14 and up. Contact the library to register at 208-448-2207.
Women’s suffrage documentary at library
PRIEST RIVER — The PBS documentary “Ahead of Her Time: Women’s Suffrage in Idaho” will screen at the Priest River Library at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10.
Idaho became the fourth state to grant women the right to vote. By the time of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution in 1920, Idaho women had been casting bal-lots and winning elections for 24 years.
Refreshments will be served. The library is located at 118 Main St.
Master Gardeners teach fruit tree grafting
NEWPORT — The Pend Oreille County Master Gardeners will host a practical and in-formative workshop, “Fruit Tree Grafting,” at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at the WSU Ex-tension Office located at 227 S. Garden Ave. in Newport.
The workshop will be led by three experienced local gardeners, Jim McGinty, John Stuart and Carol Mack, who bring extensive fruit tree knowledge and hands on grafting expertise.
Participants will learn the fundamentals of fruit tree grafting and how this age old tech-nique improves tree vigor, preserves unique varieties and increases orchard diversity. In-structors will demonstrate two common grafting methods, whip grafting and cleft graft-ing, and discuss how to select compatible rootstocks and scion wood.
Participants will also have an opportunity to see and handle grafting tools and materials, gaining confidence through close-up, practical exposure. The class will conclude with guidance on aftercare and long-term maintenance to help ensure successful grafted trees. Those who wish to practice grafting during the session are encouraged to bring a small, sharp pocketknife.
The class fee is $5 and can be paid by cash, check, money order or through PayPal.

Write Your Own Poetry Book
NEWPORT — Create Arts Center is hosting a Write Your Own Poetry Book Workshop from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21.
The class is free for ages 12 to 17 and $25 for those 18 and older. Participants are encouraged to bring memorabilia like postcards, old magazines, etc., but supplies will be available.
