PRIEST RIVER — The Priest River Lamanna girls’ basketball team lost their first game of the 3A Central Idaho conference tournament earlier this week.

Monday, Feb. 9, Priest River (8-9, 2-6) played Grangeville (16-7, 8-0), losing 66-20.

The Spartans visit Orofino for a loser-out game at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11.

Grizzly girls grapple for a chance at State

NEWPORT – The Lady Grizzly wrestling team travels to Liberty Lake for the Girls State Qualifying tournament Saturday, Feb. 14. There will be 21 teams competing and the top wrestlers in the league will advance to the Mat Classic at the Tacoma Dome Feb. 20-21.

“All of our girls have been doing so well; even our first-year girls have the opportunity to do great things this weekend,” coach Scott Pillers said.

McLaimtaig takes third at Conrad Garner

BONNERS FERRY Priest River wrestling had a good week, traveling to Bonners Ferry for the Conrad Garner Invitational Friday, Feb. 6, with Tadhg McLaimtaig winning third place in his weight bracket at 113-pounds.

Earlier in this season Priest River picked up several wins at the North Idaho Rumble tournament, Friday-Saturday, Jan. 30-31 at Coeur d’Alene High. In the 98-pound weight bracket, Justin Hopkins won two matches by 15-0 technical falls and placed fourth, McLaimtaig won a bout by a 13-1 decision and another by a 9-4 decision, placing sixth, and Bill Rapier, 144, had two wins by first-round pin. The Spartans placed 17th out of 26 teams with 42 points. For the girls, Naia Lamb placed fifth in the 125-pound division and had two wins by pin and a win by an 18-12 decision. The Lady Spartans were 20th out of 25 teams with 13 points.

There is no competition scheduled for the Spartans this week. The team will travel to St. Maries for the district tournament Saturday, Feb. 21.

Rangers ride to Freeman

IONE – The Selkirk High wrestling team took a well-deserved break from competition last week as they prepare for the state qualifying tournament in Freeman Saturday, Feb. 14.
