BRIEFLY Non-profit workshop, Tai Chi, more at Create

NEWPORT — Non-profits, creatives, everyone is welcome to these upcoming events at Create Art Center.

There will be a Nonprofit Association of WA program titled “Let’s Go Legal” Friday, March 6. The workshop will cover the elements needed to enhance fundraising, organization, compliance, laws and employment issues for nonprofits. This special class is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., includes lunch and is free. To register go to Nonprofitwa.org/Newport-lets-go-legal/ A QR code is available on the website flyer.

A “Creative Play Date” for adults will be taught by Doris Oscarson from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 14 for $25. Learn artistic styles while exploring four different mediums.

Tai Chi is taught by Anna Taylor from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursdays. This exercise improves posture and balance, and is for all skill levels. Each class is $20. Pay for four classes, get the fifth one free. Pre-registration is required.

‘Gardening on a Budget’ class

NEWPORT —The Pend Oreille County Master Gardeners will host a class on how to save money while gardening at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 12 at the WSU Extension Office located at 227 S. Garden Ave. in Newport.

Topics include practical tips and techniques to help gardeners cut costs without sacrificing quality. Participants will learn how to save money when purchasing seeds and plants, discover affordable options for plant containers and explore ways to make their own fertilizer, potting mixes and garden soil. The class will also cover strategies for reducing water bills, becoming a more efficient gardener and building garden structures at low cost.

This class offers an opportunity for both new and experienced gardeners to gain valuable skills that will make gardening more affordable and sustainable.

The class fee is $5 and can be paid by cash, check or money order.

Free Wisdom Keepers programs at library

PRIEST RIVER — The PBS series Wisdom Keepers comes to the Priest River Library on Tuesday, March 10 and April 14. Both programs start at 1 p.m. Wisdom Keepers explores the perspectives that give us a sense of who we are and where we are going, interviewing historians, ethicists, faith leaders, scientists and mystics. The March 10 program is titled “Healing a Divided People,” and April 14 will feature “America’s Broken Social Bonds.” Each episode is 35 to 50 minutes long and will feature discussion and questions at the end. Refreshments will be served.
