Bonner County election filing begins

BOISE — In addition to those at the federal and state level, positions across county departments and the board of county commissioners are up for election this year in Bonner County, with the primary election set for May.

While the filing deadline for federal, state, legislative and judicial offices was last week, candidates in county office, precinct committeemen and nonpartisan races have until Friday, March 13 to file.

To run for office in Idaho, candidates must prove valid residency, pay a filing fee or provide petition signatures and complete a candidate declaration form, according to the Idaho Secretary of State.

For the Bonner County Board of County Commissioners, the District 1 and 2 Commissioner positions are both up for election. District 1 Commissioner is a two-year term, District 2 a four-year term.

Positions are up for election in a few Bonner County departments. These include positions currently held by Clerk Michael Rosedale, Treasurer Clorrisa Koster, Assessor Dennis Engelhardt and Coroner Robert Beers. As of Monday, March 2, Koster has filed for reelection as treasurer. An opponent in the clerk race, Roger N. Rudd, has filed as well.

At the state and federal levels, several elected officials’ terms are expiring next year.

In Bonner County, District 1 Judges Lamont Berecz and Susie Jensen filed for reelection last week. Appellate Court Justice Michael Tribe and Supreme Court Justices Cynthia Meyer and Gregory Moeller filed last week as well.

Also, up for reelection are Governor Brad Little, Lieutenant Governor Scott Bedke, Secretary of State Phil McGrane, Attorney General Raúl Labrador, Controller Brandon Woolf, Superintendent of Public lic Instruction Debbie Critchfield, Treasurer Julie Ellsworth, state Sen. Jim Woodward for District 1 and state Reps. Mark Sauter and Cornel Rasor for District 1.

U.S. Sen. Jim Risch is up for reelection alongside U.S. Rep. Russ Fulcher for District 1, which partially encompasses Bonner County.
