PRIEST RIVER — The Priest River Community Garden annual kick-off meeting is 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 24 at the Priest River Library. The garden is located behind God’s Provision Thrift Shop, 544 Hwy.

Garden plots are available. Most plot boxes are assembled and available to plant.
Cost for 3 x 18 plots are $15 per year, 4 x18 plots $20 per year and 6 x 18 plots $30 per year. Plots are free for those in need who help with the garden. There is also a $5 plot discount for last year’s plot holders who help with garden.

Community Paint Night tickets for sale
NEWPORT — The Newport Creative District presents Community Paint Night at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 26 at Sadie Halstead Middle School.
This is a fundraiser to support young artists in the Greater Newport area. Proceeds from the event will help fund the Visual Art Scholarship offered by Evergreen Art Association.
Step-by-step instructions and supplies will be provided for kids and adults to paint “Pend Oreille Starry Night” with acrylic paint on canvas. Community Paint Night will be held in the multi-purpose room at Sadie Halstead Middle School, 331 S. Calispel Ave., Newport.
The doors open at 6 p.m. for a casual dinner of chili and soup, and painting starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available for $40 per person at newportcreativedistrict. com/events.
More spots open for creative play date Saturday
NEWPORT — A “Creative Play Date” for adults will be taught by Doris Oscarson from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, March 14 for $25. Learn artistic styles while exploring four different mediums. Pre-registration is required. Visit Create in person or online at www. createarts.org.

Free permaculture class this Saturday
PRIEST RIVER — The class “Permaculture with Mary Bishop” is Saturday, March 14, 11 a.m. at the Priest River Library. Learn how to practice permaculture (permanent + agriculture) without the use of synthetic pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers. Also, included in the presentation will be ways to build up soil, reduce water usage,and build natural habitat. Presented by Mary Bishop of All Things Regenerative, LLC, Mary works with community gardens and homeowners. Her designs include gardens focusing on pollinators and other beneficial insects. She will share resources that will help people on their permaculture journey. There is no cost for the class and registration is not necessary.
Congressional Art Contest open
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Congressional Art Contest is accepting entries for the 2026 contest. U.S. Representatives Michael Baumgartner’s and Russ Fulcher’s offices announced that they are accepting entries.
The winning artwork from each district will hang in the United States Capitol for one year and the student artists will receive Congressional recognition and an invitation to an awards ceremony on Capitol Hill.
