Christie and David Prestens witnessed a semi-truck strike a bald eagle that was flying low over Highway 2 near Telephone Road Monday. The injured bird walked into some nearly brush, and the Prestens called for help. “I really think the eagle knew everyone was there to help her,” Christie Presten said. The Prestens called Kootenai County Wildlife Refuge first, which gave them the number for a Washington Fish and Wildlife agent. The Prestens contacted Donna with WDFW, who was able to come rescue the injured eagle in about an hour and a half. Christie said the bird stayed in the shrubbery, watching Christie and Dave, until Donna arrived. The eagle then walked out into a field and allowed Donna to pick it up and wrap it in a blanket. Christie said the bird is expected to recover. Pictured are Donna holding the bald eagle and David Prestens.
