BRIEFLY Banner design contest

NEWPORT – The Newport Creative District is organizing a Banner Design Contest to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary. “America, the Beautiful” is the theme for the designs. The contest is open to all individuals.

Twenty winning designs will be transformed into banners and displayed throughout Newport. There is no entry fee for participating in the contest. To enter, just send a photo of your design, using portrait layout, to [email protected].

Coming up at Priest Lake Library

PRIEST LAKE – There are several programs coming up at the Priest Lake Library for kids and adults.

Winter reading is Thursday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m.

Dungeons and Dragons is Friday, March 20 at 12:30 p.m. In observation of World Poetry Day there will be an adult program Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m.

Tuesday, March 24 is preschool story time at 11 a.m.

A paint by number adult art class is Wednesday, April 25 at 11 a.m. A junior art class for National Scribble Art Day is Thursday, March 27 at 10:30 a.m. Another preschool story time is Tuesday, March 31 at 11 a.m.

Pysanky egg decorating

PRIEST RIVER – The Priest River Library will be having a free pysanky egg decorating class Saturday, March 21 at 11 a.m. Pysanky eggs, also called Ukrainian Easter eggs are made by hollowing out eggs and decorating them using a wax-resist method. These beautiful elaborate designs have been around for centuries and have a rich cultural history. Join Lisa Durkin and learn how to create these beautiful works of art just in time for the Easter season. The class is open to ages 14+ and all materials will be provided.
