LEWISTON — The Spartan Track and Field Team got off to a great start at the Lewiston Invite Saturday, March 21. Nike Porinchok won first place in discus and second in shot put with a new personal best of 47 feet 3.25 inches in discus. Ian Lamanna won first in pole vault. Lamanna cracked the Spartan All-Time Top 10 list for Priest River Lamanna High track and field, having the second-best reach in pole vaulting and the eighth best time in the 200-meter race.
“Ian’s vault of 13 feet 8 inches is now the second best in school history and just 10 inches off the school record,” head coach Jared Hughes said to the Miner in an email. “Ian also ran a huge personal best in the 200-meter of 23.51 that jumped him up to number eight on our schools all-time list.”
“We are down in numbers this year, but we have some talented athletes that are working hard,” head coach Jared Hughes told the Miner in an email. “This weekend results prove that point. We had eight of the 11 athletes start off the year with lifetime bests.”
Gunnar Pettit and Daniel Gunkle also had great meets, with Pettit running the eighth best 400-meter time in the 3A District so far this year and Gunkle running the ninth best 800-meter. For the girls, Haylee Jepson ran a great personal best in the 100-meter and freshman Farrah Hollett started her high school career with a personal best in the shot put.
Spartans that have already made the top five in the Central Idaho League (CIL) include: Niki Porinchok, first in shot put and discus; Ian Lamanna first in pole vault and 200-meter; Daniel Gunkle, first in the 800 and 600-meter races; Gunnar Pettit, third in the 200-meter and 400-meter, fourth in pole vaulting; Ashlyn Korff, second in the 200-meter, third in the long jump, fifth in the 100-meter; Haylee Jepson-Church, third in the 300-meter hurdles and fourth in the 100-meter and Farrah Hollett, fourth in shot put.
