BRIEFLY Create hosting upcoming events

NEWPORT — Create Art Center is hosting a few upcoming events.

Jenni Barry is returning to Create with a kimekomi fabric art class from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 11. The class is $36.

That evening, Crooked Kilt Band with MSD Irish dancers is performing from 6 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door, with students free.

Sam Brooks is offering another watercolor workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 12. The workshop is $20.

The first and third Thursdays of the month, there is a ukulele studio for players and beginners from noon to 2 p.m. Each session is $5, or participants can buy a card paying for four sessions and receiving the fifth one free.

Auditions opening for Savannah Sipping Society

NEWPORT — Out of the Box Entertainment is bringing Savannah Sipping Society to Newport, Cusick and Metaline Falls.

The Savannah Sipping Society is a popular comedy play by Jamie Wooten, Jessie Jones and Nicholas Hope about four Southern women who form a bond over weekly get-togethers, reclaiming their zest for life after facing personal challenges, according to an Out of the Box news release.

The play follows the women’s hilarious misadventures as they support each other in finding new confidence and purpose, discovering that it is never too late for new friendships and a fresh start.

Director Lauretta Heaney is looking for four women to fill these parts.

Auditions will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, April 13 and Tuesday, April 14 in the meeting room of American Legion Post 217, 105 Timber St., Cusick. No special preparation is required.

Congressional Art Contest open

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Congressional Art Contest is accepting entries for the 2026 contest.

U.S. Representatives Michael Baumgartner’s and Russ Fulcher’s offices announced that they are accepting entries.

The winning artwork from each district will hang in the United States Capitol for one year and the student artists will receive Congressional recognition and an invitation to an awards ceremony on Capitol Hill.

Artists from Washington’s 5th Congressional District can visit Baumgartner’s website for details or email [email protected] or call 509-353-2374. Deadline for entries from the 5th Congressional District is Tuesday, April 21.

Artists from Idaho’s 1st Congressional District can go to Fulcher’s website or call his Meridian office at 208888-3188. Deadline for entries from the 1st Congressional District is Friday, April 10.

Earth Day ArtWalk returning to Newport

NEWPORT — The Earth Day ArtWalk is returning to Newport for its fourth-year next month.

This year, the ArtWalk is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 25 in TJ Kelly Park.

The Earth Day theme involves art made of natural elements or recycled materials or inspired by nature. All mediums are welcome, including fine art, wood, metal, glass, fabric, jewelry and basketry. There will also be musicians and performers.
