Build it yourself robot class
NEWPORT – A free “Power of Science” demonstration about build-ityourself robots will be held Wednesday, April 1, at Sadie Halstead Middle School, from 4-5 p.m. in classroom 2 at 331 S. Calispel Avenue in Newport.
The Selkirk Alliance for Science and Kalispel Natural Resources Department are partnering with the Grizzly Discovery Center to put on the event.
FIRST Robotics is also involved. It is a nonprofit organization that helps K-12 students build hands-on skills in science, engineering, technology and math through local robotics competitions. No prior robot experience is necessary to participate in FIRST programs. Guest speaker Jake Osborn, who grew up in Springdale, will describe how FIRST programs could help create robotics teams within the Newport School District. More information about FIRST programs can be found at www.firstinspires. org.
