GRANGEVILLE — The Priest River Spartans baseball team made the trip to Grangeville and came away with three wins, a 18-6 win on Friday, March 27 and taking both games in a doubleheader Saturday, 5-1 and 16-12.
The Spartans capitalized on a big 10 run fourth inning to take the lead after trailing 3-2 going into the fourth. Grangeville scored three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Priest River put the game away with a solid 6-run sixth inning to win by the 10-run rule.
Brayden Elder had four hits in the game and Broden Collins stole four bases for the Spartans in the win.
Saturday Grangeville again scored a run in the first inning of game one of the doubleheaders, holding that lead until the sixth inning when Priest River scored two. Grangeville couldn’t score again, and the Spartans tacked on another 3 runs in the seventh inning to get the 5-1 win.
Brady Hatten and Colton Kuprienko each had a pair of hits. Braden Elder started as pitcher for the first 3.2 innings, striking out six batters and giving up two hits. Jacob Best finished the game, striking out seven, with no hits.
In game two, Kuprienko got four hits and Dave Findley got three hits and Collins stole four bases.
Priest River played St. Maries at home Tuesday, March 31. The Spartans are at Newport for two games Tuesday, April 7. They play Riverside at 1 p.m. and Newport at 3 p.m.
