COLBERT — The Newport High School softball team won one game of three they played against Northwest Christian last week.
Wednesday, March 25, Newport (1-4, 1-2) visited Northwest Christian (5-3, 2-3) in Colbert, losing 7-9.
Grace Parry led Newport with 3 RBIs, including one home run. Bella Boyd and Parry had 2 hits.
Saturday, March 28, Newport hosted Northwest Christian for a doubleheader, losing the first game 19-14 but winning the second 11-10.
Parry led Newport again with a triple, double, four runs and 3 RBIs. Abby Martin and Lilli Hall each added 2 hits, Boyd 2 RBIs.
Game two was just as back-andforth as Newport’s previous games against Northwest Christian.
The teams tied in the sixth inning after Newport scored two runs, 10-10 in the bottom of the seventh inning. There, Parry scored the winning run.
Genica Kreider led in hits with 4, followed by Alyssa Dibble, Boyd and Parry with three each. One of Parry’s runs was a home run. Boyd, Parry, Kreider and Cheyanne Frisk each added 2 RBIs.
The Grizzlies hosted Kettle Falls Tuesday, March 31 after The Miner’s weekly deadline.
They next visit Kettle Falls at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, April 3, then visit Kettle Falls again at noon and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 4. Tuesday, April 7, the Grizzlies host Riverside at 11 a.m. and Priest River at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. for a triple.
