COLVILLE — It was a sunny day that heralded first place victories for Newport track and field at the Ezra Gordon Invite in Colville Saturday, March 28. Olivia Collins won first place in the 3200-meter at 12:19.96 and Joelle Brandtner won first in triple jump, reaching 32-feet, 3.5-inches.
“Our distance, throws, and jumps had a great day up in Colville, with two of our girls, Olivia and Joelle, bringing back firsts is pretty awesome,” coach Levi Litowitz said. “Damien had a great day with all four of his events, we are really happy with his progress.”
For the boys Malik Kennett was third in 110 -meter hurdles at 19.14. The boys’ 4x100 relay team won third place at 46.44. That included Leif Axel, Dax Hansen, Kale Markwardt and Aidan Kramer. Rayben Jurgens won second place in discus with a personal record of 135-feet. Damien Hamberg placed fifth in shot put at 41-feet, 10.5-inches (PR), sixth in discus at 117-feet, 9-inches (PR), fifth in javelin at 122-feet and fifth high jump at 5-feet, 6-inches. Aiden Tieman had a PR in the 1600-meter at 5:41.00 and Kaylee McNamee placed 12th in shot put at 23-feet, 5.5-inches (PR).
“We had a couple kids missing due to sickness, so next week we should be at full strength and ready for Glenn Wolf,” Litowitz said.
Newport travels to the Glenn Wolf Invite at Deer Park High School Wednesday, April 1 at 10:30 a.m.
